Call for Papers: First European Workshop on Argumentation and Uncertainty (ArgU@ECSQARU 2025) More information: https://argu2025.krportal.org Formal models of argumentation are approaches that deal with the representation and interaction of arguments and counterarguments. These models can be applied in all areas that benefit from automatic decision-support such as medicine, accounting, chemistry, and law. Besides, AI systems need to handle uncertainty in many ways, for instance regarding the quality of data it uses, or the reliability of sensors, information sources, etc. Links between formal argumentation and uncertainty have been emphasized in many ways, since argumentation-based formalisms can be used to provide reasoning methods in presence of uncertainty, and they are also subject to the presence of uncertainty (for instance regarding the evolution of a debate, or the strength of arguments). This workshop aims at discussing the most recent advances in the relation between argumentation and uncertainty, notably papers focusing on: - Argumentation for dealing with uncertain information, - Argument Strength, - Uncertainty in argumentation, - Approximate algorithms for argumentation. Papers oriented towards applications, or describing work-in-progress are welcome, since they can foster vivid discussions in the community. If the paper does not explicitly address uncertainty, it would be good to include a discussion on how it could be extended or adapted to incorporate this aspect. # Submissions We invite papers, which have to be in English and formatted according to the CEURART style (LaTeX template available here: https://argu2025.krportal.org/ArgU2025_latex_template.zip), in the following two categories: Full technical papers (14 pages max., including references) are expected to report on new research that makes a substantial technical contribution to the field. Additional details may be included in an appendix, which, however, will be read at the discretion of the PC. Position papers (7 pages max., including references) can report on research in progress or other issues of interest to the argumentation community. Examples of work suitable for position paper submissions include: novel ideas whose scope is not large enough for a full paper; important implementation techniques; short experimental studies; interesting applications that are not yet completely solved or analysed; position or challenge papers. Submissions are handled through the EasyChair conference management system: https://easychair.org/my/conference?conf=argu2025. All papers will be subject to blind peer review based on the standard criteria of relevance, significance of results, originality of ideas, soundness, and quality of the presentation. All accepted papers will be published in the workshop proceedings via http://ceur-ws.org, and will be presented at the workshop. At least one author of each accepted paper must register for the workshop (through the ECSQARU 2025 website) and present the contribution. # Keynote talk Prof. Bart Verheij, University of Groningen # Important dates - Paper submissions deadline: 03.07.2025 - Acceptance notifications: 07.08.2025 - Final versions of accepted papers: Tba - Workshop: 23.09.2025 # Organizers Jérôme Delobelle (jerome.delobelle@u-paris.fr), Jean-Guy Mailly (jean-guy.mailly@irit.fr), Julien Rossit (julien.rossit@u-paris.fr), Kenneth Skiba (kenneth.skiba@fernuni-hagen.de)
